Honestly, needed an attendance policy like yesterday. My boss dropped it on me Monday morning – "Hey, get this sorted by Friday!" Okay then. Total scramble mode.
Step one was the obvious freak-out. Yeah, yeah, breathe. But seriously, where do you even start? I didn’t wanna pay some lawyer big bucks, felt lazy making one from scratch.
The Desperate Google Phase
Jumped on my laptop, fingers flying. Searched stuff like "free attendance rules template" and "policy for absences download". Holy crap, the junk that popped up! So many sites wanted sign-ups, emails, or led straight to paid versions. Got stuck clicking around one site for 10 freaking minutes before hitting a paywall. Annoying!

That Glimmer of Hope
Took a coffee break. Okay, brain reset. Changed my search to something simpler: "free attendance policy template document". Scroll scroll scroll... boom! First clean hit was actually a place I didn’t expect. Just a simple webpage offering HR templates. No crazy pop-ups, no email fishing. Felt almost too easy.
- Clicked the clear "Preview" button – yup, actually showed me the full thing.
- Saw sections for PTO, tardiness, sick leave... all the basics covered neatly.
- Big, obvious "Download" button. Seriously, it was right there.
Downloaded in a heartbeat. File landed right in my Downloads folder. .DOCX format. Nice.
Making It Mine (The Quick & Dirty Way)
Opened that sucker in Word. Wasn't a work of art, but who cares? It had the bones. Deleted "[Company Name Here]" and typed ours in. Scrolled through:
- Tweaked the sick days number (boss wanted 5 max).
- Changed the "report late" contact from HR Manager to our office lady, Brenda.
- Trashed a section about doctor notes every time – felt overkill for us.
- Added one line about remote work check-ins cause we do that now.
Took maybe 20 minutes? I ain't fancy.
The Final Act
Saved my custom version: "ACME_Widget_Co_Attendance_Policy_FINAL_*". Yeah, we know drafts are never final. Emailed the draft to Brenda in HR and my boss. Subject: "Attendance Policy Draft Ready". Attached it. Hit send.

Done. Boss hasn't yelled yet. Consider this one figured out without losing cash or my mind. Total lifesaver finding that thing. Download, tweak, ship it. That's my speed.
