My Beer Journey Started Simple
Alright, so look, I decided maybe it's time to figure out what all this domestic beer stuff is about. Always heard people talk about craft this and IPA that, but honestly? I just wanted something cold, cheap, and easy to drink on a hot day without thinking too hard. Figured other beginners might feel the same way. So I hit up the corner store.
Grabbed the usual suspects, all cans:
- Bud Light - You see this everywhere, right?
- Coors Light - Those mountains turn blue, gotta try it.
- Miller Lite - The other one everyone argues about.
- Michelob Ultra - Keeps popping up, "low carb" thing.
No fancy bottles, nothing special. This ain't a tasting party, this is survival-level beer drinking for starters. Just chilled them all in my fridge overnight.
Cracking Them Open
Next afternoon, sweating a bit, perfect time. Pulled out four identical glasses – gotta compare fair. Poured each one slowly. Honestly? They all looked pretty similar.
Started with Bud Light. Took a sip. Felt cold, bubbly... and tasted like... well, water mostly? Super light, almost thin. Clean finish, no strong aftertaste kicking me. Easy to gulp down. Pretty much what I expected: simple, basic, cold.
Switched to Coors Light. Again, light yellow color. First taste – okay, maybe a tiny bit sweeter? Corn-ish? More bubbles hitting the tongue for me. Still smooth, still super light. Finished clean too.
Then Miller Lite. Poured it, foam settled. Took a swallow. Felt similar weight, maybe ever so slightly drier? Less sweetness than the Coors in my mouth. Just a hint of that dry feel at the end. Easy drinking confirmed.
Finally, Michelob Ultra. Different can, felt fancier somehow. Flavor? Even lighter body somehow! Like sparkling water decided to hang out with a wheat field once. Very clean finish, almost too clean? But yeah, super drinkable if you want less taste in your beer.
What Did I Actually Learn?
Honestly? Comparing them side-by-side:
- Bud Light: Super neutral, basic beer flavor, clean finish. Water beer champion.
- Coors Light: Touch sweeter/corn-like, fizzy feel. Good cold refreshment.
- Miller Lite: Leaner, tad drier finish. Crisp.
- Michelob Ultra: Lightest body of the bunch, very clean. Almost ghost beer.
They all nailed the "easy drinking" part. None overwhelmed my senses. Cheap, cold, bubbly, light – that’s what beginners actually care about sometimes. No bad aftertastes to scare you off. Perfect for cracking open during a game, chilling on a porch swing without thinking, or just cooling down after mowing the lawn.
Started thinking beer had to be complicated. Guess sometimes simple just works.
